TechTex UV

TechTex UV is a nonwoven geotextile produced by needle punching high strength 100 percent pure polypropylene fibres and applying heat treatment. TechTex UV is developed for applications that remain exposed. Polypropylene fibres lose strength when left under sunlight for extended periods in their natural state, whereas this product retains its performance in areas that stay uncovered after placement thanks to its enhanced UV resistance. The needle punching process mechanically interlocks the fibres with one another, while the heat treatment stabilises the surface and provides dimensional stability. The product can be manufactured in different weights and strength values according to project requirements.

TechTex UV Functions

When placed between two soil layers of different particle sizes, TechTex UV performs four functions in a single layer. Its fibre structure allows water to pass while retaining fine particles, providing both drainage and filtration. The same structure prevents the two layers from mixing and distributes the stresses beneath the fill over a wide area. The 100 percent polypropylene raw material makes the product resistant to chemical effects in the soil, while its UV resistance limits strength loss in applications that remain exposed after placement.

Drainage

The needle punched fibre structure has the capacity to transmit water within its own plane. It collects water accumulating in the soil laterally and directs it towards the drainage line, preventing a rise in pore water pressure and the associated loss of stability.

Filtration

The pore structure of the product allows water to pass freely while preventing the migration of fine soil particles. This delays the clogging of the drainage aggregate with fine material over time and allows the drainage system to retain its function for a long period.

Reinforcement

Fill placed over weak subgrade spreads laterally under load and causes settlement. With its high strength fibre structure, TechTex UV distributes the stresses beneath the fill over a wide area, reducing the risk of local failure and contributing to bearing capacity.

Separation

When two soil layers of different particle sizes come into direct contact, fine particles fill the voids of the granular material and the fill loses its bearing capacity. TechTex UV forms a continuous separating layer between the two courses, preventing this mixing and preserving the performance of the granular fill.

In TechTex UV, polypropylene fibres are mechanically interlocked with one another by thousands of needles, after which the surface is stabilised by heat treatment. Rather than holding the fibres in a single plane, this structure forms them into a three dimensional network, so that when sharp edged particles press against the surface the load is transferred not to a single fibre but to the surrounding fibres as well. As a result, the product delivers the same performance at a lower weight. Reducing the risk of tearing and puncture during placement is critical in applications used beneath crushed stone or rubble fill.
