GeoMat R - Geogrid Reinforced Erosion Control Mat

GeoMat R
GeoMat R is a high performance geosynthetic in which the interlocking filaments of a three dimensional polyamide erosion control mat are reinforced with a high strength polyester geogrid. GeoMat R combines the surface protection of a standard erosion control mat with the tensile strength of a geogrid. While the three dimensional filament structure holds seed and soil in place and supports the development of vegetation, the polyester geogrid integrated into the structure gives the surface tensile strength. This allows the product to be used on steep slopes and in applications with high surface stress where a standard mat would not be sufficient. Since erosion control and surface reinforcement are provided within a single layer, there is no need for a two stage application with separate products.
GeoMat R Functions
Thanks to the high strength polyester geogrid integrated into its structure, GeoMat R combines erosion control with surface reinforcement and is produced with standard strength values ranging from 30 kN/m to 50 kN/m. Its open, three dimensional structure holds seed and soil in place to support rapid vegetation growth, while the geogrid layer gives the surface tensile strength. This structure allows it to be used with confidence in areas subject to high surface stress, such as stormwater channels, waterways, embankments, steep slopes and spillways.
Drainage
Its open structure allows surface water to flow freely through the mat. Instead of pooling on the surface, water is discharged in a controlled manner, which reduces the risk of scouring and channel formation.
Erosion Control
It prevents raindrops from striking the soil directly and reduces the velocity of surface runoff. Its void structure holds seed and topsoil in place, and as plant roots grow through the mat, the protection becomes permanent.
Reinforcement
The polyester geogrid integrated into the structure gives the surface tensile strength, making the product suitable for steep slopes where a standard mat would not be sufficient. As erosion control and reinforcement are delivered in a single layer, a two stage application is no longer required.
Surface Stabilisation
It limits the sliding and surface movement of soil on slope and embankment faces. During the period until vegetation establishes, it holds the surface mechanically stable, and afterwards the root network and the geogrid together form a permanent stabilisation layer.
Reinforcement and Erosion Control
GeoMat R is a versatile mat material that can be produced to suit different design requirements. It provides effective reinforcement in applications such as canal and shoreline protection, the repair of slope failures, steep gradient works and channel stabilisation. On high stress surfaces where standard mats fall short, it delivers erosion protection and surface reinforcement within a single layer, eliminating the need for a two stage application.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What Is GeoMat R?
GeoMat R is a reinforced geosynthetic produced by integrating a high strength polyester geogrid into the filaments of a three dimensional erosion control mat. It delivers erosion protection and surface reinforcement in a single layer.
2. What Is the Difference Between GeoMat R and Standard Geomat?
Standard Geomat provides surface protection and vegetation support but offers no tensile strength. GeoMat R, thanks to the polyester geogrid integrated into its structure, gives the surface tensile strength and can be used on steep slopes where a standard mat would not be sufficient.
3. In Which Strength Values Is GeoMat R Produced?
It is produced with standard strength values of 30 kN/m and 50 kN/m. You can contact our technical team to select the appropriate value according to your project requirements.
4. Where Is GeoMat R Used?
It is used for canal and shoreline protection, the repair of slope failures, steep gradient applications, channel stabilisation, stormwater channels, embankments and spillway areas. It is particularly preferred in projects subject to high surface stress.
5. Is GeoMat R Used Together With Vegetation?
Yes, the product delivers its highest performance when working together with vegetation. Its open structure holds seed and soil in place, and as plant roots grow through the mat, the root network and the geogrid together form a permanent stabilisation layer.
6. How Durable Is GeoMat R?
Thanks to its high UV resistance, it maintains its performance outdoors over a long period. As its polymer raw material does not absorb water, it neither rots nor gains weight over time, and it requires no maintenance after installation.
